The Configuration tab controls how a relay behaves. Every setting on this tab determines whether and under what conditions a pilot can trigger the relay from the Pilot App.
Fields on this tab
Relay name
The descriptive label for this relay. This name appears in the Relay list and in the Pilot App when a pilot triggers access. Choose a name that clearly identifies the physical access point, such as "Main hangar door" or "Briefing room entrance".
Active status
Controls whether the relay is available for use. When active (on), pilots can trigger the relay from the Pilot App. When inactive (off), the relay will not respond to any trigger attempts. All other settings on this tab are irrelevant while the relay is inactive.
Turning a relay off is useful during maintenance, when an access point is temporarily closed, or when you need to prevent all access immediately.
Geofence configuration
The geofence restricts relay access based on the pilot's physical location. When enabled, the pilot must be within a defined distance from a set location for the trigger to succeed.
Geofence settings include:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Location | The geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the access point. |
| Distance | The maximum distance from the location at which a trigger is still accepted. |
When geofence is disabled, location is not checked and the relay can be triggered from anywhere (subject to other conditions).
Valid booking requirement
When this setting is on, the pilot must have an active booking linked to this relay or its associated resources in order to trigger it. When off, booking status is not checked.
This is useful for access points that should only be available to pilots who have reserved a specific aircraft or resource. For example, a hangar door that should only open for the pilot who has booked the aircraft inside.
Linked aircraft or resources
Specifies which aircraft or other resources are associated with this relay. This field works together with the valid booking requirement. When booking checks are enabled, the system verifies that the pilot has an active booking for one of the linked resources.
Warning
If no resources are linked and the booking requirement is on, no pilot will be able to satisfy the booking condition. Every trigger attempt will be denied.
How the conditions work together
When a pilot triggers a relay, the system evaluates all enabled conditions in sequence:
- Is the relay active? If not, the attempt fails immediately.
- Is the geofence enabled? If yes, is the pilot within the allowed distance? If not, the attempt fails.
- Is the valid booking requirement enabled? If yes, does the pilot have an active booking for a linked resource? If not, the attempt fails.
- Is there a person-specific exception in Access exceptions? If an "always granted" exception exists, the pilot is allowed through regardless of other conditions. If a "blocked" exception exists, the pilot is denied regardless of other conditions.
Note
A failed condition produces an error entry in the Access log with a message explaining which condition was not met.
How to configure a relay
Enable a relay for general use
- Open the relay from the Relay list.
- Go to the Configuration tab.
- Set the active status to on.
- Leave geofence and booking requirement off if you want unrestricted access.
- Save the configuration.
Restrict access by location
- Open the relay Configuration tab.
- Enable the geofence.
- Enter the geographic coordinates of the access point.
- Set the maximum distance. Start with a reasonable radius (for example, 50 to 100 metres) and adjust based on testing.
- Save and verify by checking the Access log after a pilot triggers the relay from the expected location.
Require a valid booking
- Open the relay Configuration tab.
- Turn on the valid booking requirement.
- Link the relevant aircraft or resources.
- Save the configuration.
- Confirm that pilots with active bookings can trigger the relay and pilots without bookings are denied. Check the Access log for both outcomes.
Temporarily disable a relay
- Open the relay Configuration tab.
- Set the active status to off.
- Save. The relay will no longer respond to trigger attempts.
- When the relay should be available again, return to this tab and set the active status back to on.
Common tasks
- A relay should only open for nearby pilots -- enable the geofence and set appropriate coordinates and distance.
- A relay should only open for pilots with bookings -- enable the valid booking requirement and link the correct resources.
- You need to shut down access immediately -- set the active status to off.
- A pilot is denied despite meeting all conditions -- check Access exceptions for a "blocked" entry for that person.
Good practice
Tip
After making configuration changes, always verify the result by checking the Access log for the next trigger attempt. This confirms your settings are working as intended.
- Verify geofence coordinates and distance carefully before relying on location-based access. Incorrect coordinates will block all pilots or allow access from the wrong location.
- Enable the booking requirement only when the linked resource setup is correct. If no resources are linked, the booking check will deny everyone.
- After making configuration changes, verify the result by checking the Access log for the next trigger attempt.
- Use clear, descriptive relay names so that pilots and other administrators can immediately understand which physical access point is being controlled.
- Document any non-obvious configuration choices (such as large geofence distances) outside of Aerolync so other administrators understand the reasoning.
