Pilot App

Home

The operational starting screen of the Pilot App — airfield status, vicinity detection, quick action buttons, and flight start and close actions.

Last updated 2026-03-28

The Home screen is your operational dashboard in the Aerolync Pilot App. It shows the current airfield situation and provides quick access to the most common operational actions.

What you see on the Home screen

Airfield status

When you are near a connected airfield, the Home screen shows:

Element Description
Airfield name The name and ICAO identifier of the detected airfield.
Active runway Current active runway information.
Status indicator Open, Closed, or Not Connected.
Status comments Additional information about the current operational state.

Important

The app uses your device's GPS location to detect nearby airfields automatically. If location services are disabled, the app cannot determine your proximity to an airfield and operational buttons may be unavailable.

Vicinity detection

The app checks your GPS position against known airfield locations. When you are within the vicinity of a connected airfield:

  • The airfield name and status appear at the top of the Home screen
  • Flight logging buttons become available
  • Location-dependent quick actions activate

When you are not near any airfield, some operational buttons may be unavailable or show limited information.

Quick action buttons

The Home screen provides several quick action buttons:

Button Description
AD Info View aerodrome information for the detected or selected airfield.
Access Control Trigger an access control relay to open gates, doors, or other entry points. See Access Control.
Aerodrome OPS Open or close aerodrome operations, delegate control, and manage runway assignments (requires authorisation).
Scan QR Code Opens the built-in QR code scanner for various quick actions.
Home Base Set or change your default home airfield.

Starting a new flight

To log a departure:

  1. Make sure you are near the departure airfield (or have it selected)
  2. Tap the Start flight button on the Home screen
  3. The app opens the Flight Logger departure flow
  4. Follow the departure steps: route type, aerodrome details, flight details, aircraft selection
  5. Review and confirm the departure

The Start flight button may be unavailable if:

  • You are not near a connected airfield
  • There is already an active flight on your account
  • The aircraft is blocked due to a defect or unavailability

Closing an active flight

When you have an active flight (a departure was logged but no arrival yet):

  1. The Home screen shows your active flight information
  2. Tap the Close flight button
  3. The app opens the Flight Logger arrival flow
  4. Confirm or adjust route and flight details
  5. Enter Hobbs meter readings if required
  6. Optionally report a defect
  7. Review and confirm the arrival

Aerodrome operations

If you have aerodrome commander permissions, additional controls appear:

  • Open airfield — Set the airfield status to open and assign the active runway
  • Close airfield — Close the airfield for operations
  • Delegate control — Transfer aerodrome commander responsibility to another authorised person

These actions are logged in the Flight Register as operational movements.

Common tasks

Check if the airfield is open before heading out

  1. Open the app and go to the Home screen
  2. Check the status indicator at the top
  3. Review any status comments for additional context

Trigger a gate or door relay

  1. Tap Access Control on the Home screen
  2. Select the relay you want to trigger
  3. Confirm the action
  4. The relay opens if your access is permitted

Set your home base

  1. Tap Home Base on the Home screen
  2. Select your preferred airfield from the list
  3. Confirm your selection
  4. The Home screen now defaults to showing this airfield's status

Troubleshooting

Airfield not detected — Enable location services on your device and allow the Aerolync app to use your location. Move to an area with better GPS reception if indoors.

Flight buttons not available — You may not be close enough to a connected airfield, or there may be an active flight or operational restriction. Check the status indicator for details.

Access control not working — The relay may be inactive, you may be outside the geofence, or you may not have an active booking. Check with your administrator. See Access Control configuration.

Good practice

  • Allow location access for the best operational experience
  • Check the airfield status before starting your pre-flight preparation
  • Log your departure as close to the actual departure time as possible
  • Close your flight immediately after landing
  • Set your home base if you primarily operate from one airfield
